In August 2022, I saw a video on Twitter featuring Nicole Kidman consuming insects on camera to familiarizeĀ the general public with the practice of consuming bugs. I am curious about the monetary compensation Nicole received for inducing a stomach ache and triggering an inflammatory response in herself.
Insects possess chitin, a substance that the digestive system cannot break down. Chitin is a polysaccharide that is very palatable to cancer cells, parasites, and fungi. This is a huge reason why you will not eat bugs.
During my exploration into transhumanism, I have pondered the intriguing correlation between parasites, insects, and nanotechnology.
Chitin is utilized in their nanotechnology. With an annual production of 1011 tons, Chitin is the second most abundant biomaterial on Earth after cellulose. This is not farce either.
Chitin is extracted from the exoskeletons of various sources such as seafood shellfish, crabs, shrimps, insects, edible mushrooms of fungus species, and seaweed algae. It is then processed into a raw dried powder.
According to Science Direct, the main reason for the increasing scientific interest in chitin nano-objects is their unique combination of physicochemical, mechanical, and biological qualities.
Chitin is highly prevalent, capable of being broken down by natural processes, and compatible with living organisms with minimal harm to cells.
It also has antibacterial properties and does not provoke a strong immune response. In addition, chitin nano-objects possess a high aspect ratio, a large surface area, a low density, and a reactive surface. I know one thing, you will not catch me consuming any. The thought alone BUGS me! š¤£
Now, going back to why you will not eat bugs, I would challenge certain aspects of this. I believe that consuming or administering this substance poses a potential risk to one’s health and should be avoided.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, and those with shellfish allergies are advised against using chitosan. Chitosan has the potential to interfere with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as certain minerals such as zinc, and compounds like flavonoids.
Additionally, it can interfere with the assimilation of other drugs aka “medications.”
